Postpartum Closing Ceremony

Rooted in the Mexican rebozo tradition, this warming ceremony gathers your birth story, honours your body and gently closes the chapter of pregnancy and birth — so motherhood can truly begin.

What the ceremony entails

Two doulas come to your home and create a sanctuary: warm tea, low light, a herbal foot bath, a full-body massage with warm oil, and finally the ritual wrapping — long woven cloths drawn snugly around your head, shoulders, hips and feet, holding each place in turn while your story is spoken aloud.

The ceremony usually takes three hours and is best held from six weeks after birth onwards, though mothers come to it months or even years later. Whenever you are ready to mark the passage, the ritual is ready for you.

What's included

  • A preparatory call to hear your story and shape the ceremony around it
  • Two experienced doulas attending for around three hours in your home
  • Herbal foot ritual, warm-oil massage and womb warming with hot stones
  • The traditional seven-point rebozo wrapping, held in stillness and song
  • Space to tell your whole birth story — the beautiful parts and the hard ones
  • Closing tea, nourishing treats and a small keepsake to mark the passage

How it works

1

Your story

A call beforehand where we listen to your pregnancy, birth and early motherhood.

2

Sanctuary

We prepare your space — warmth, scent, low light — while you settle with tea.

3

Warming

Foot bath, massage and heat to soften a body that has worked so hard.

4

Closing

The wrapping ritual, your honoured story, and emergence — held and whole.

Benefits for you

  • A recognised ending to the birth chapter, however it unfolded
  • Deep physical release for hips, back and shoulders after birth
  • Your story witnessed with reverence, not fixed or judged
  • A threshold moment many mothers describe as profoundly healing

Common questions

Is this a religious ritual?

No. It is a cultural tradition of care, offered with respect and adapted to every belief and background.

My birth was years ago — is it too late?

Never. We hold ceremonies for mothers of toddlers, teenagers and beyond. The body remembers, and so does the heart.

What if my birth was traumatic?

The ceremony can be deeply healing, and we hold it with extra gentleness. We can also connect you with birth-trauma specialists alongside.
